Where are Stainless Braided Brake Hoses used?
Typically a Stainless Braided Brake hose is used as a replacement to a Rubber brake hose. A vehicle's braking system usually consists of metal piping and rubber hoses leading from the master cylinder to each of the calipers. Rubber hoses are used in all braking systems where flexibility is needed around moving suspension and steering points. As the brake pedal is depressed, fluid within the system passes through the brake hoses into the calipers and pushes the pistons out. These pistons press against the brake pads which, in turn make contact with the rotors, and create the friction from which slows your car in a progressive and predictable manner.
This is what it is commonly known as, but the hose is actually Polytetrafluoroethylene. (PTFE) is an engineered plastic resin in the fluorocarbon group usually referred to as Teflon. The manufacturing process involves extruding Teflon tube which is then covered with a single stainless steel wire braid cover, and is then generally referred to as Stainless Braided Hose.
Why use Stainless Braided Hose for brake hoses?
The properties of Stainless Braided Teflon Hose are untouchable!
Teflon tube combined with a stainless braid cover can perform continuously under high pressure, continual flexing and constant vibrating conditions.
The hose has a minimum burst pressure of 12,000psi.
It can also typically withstand temperatures from -73°C to +260°C under most operating conditions. Almost no substance can adhere to Teflon. This property insures the purity of brake fluid when transferred in a Teflon hose.
With a coefficient of friction as low as 0.05, deposits cannot build up and flow rates are high throughout the hose life
By its nature, Teflon lacks affinity to moisture. Therefore absorption of moisture is less than 0.01%.
Teflon does not transfer an odour or colour to the passing brake fluid.
Teflon hose is ageless!. Weather, exposure, time…. None of these affect the properties of Teflon.
Teflon hose has a limit less shelf life, it does not age.
What makes Maltech Ultimate Brake Hoses Street Legal?
After many years of development and testing, the BrakeQuip style of stainless braided brake hose became the first to successfully pass the ADR testing here in Australia. On completion of the testing the hoses were issued a Component Registration Number CRN 30886 by the Department of Transport and Regional Services These numbers can be seen on the insert on both ends of every hose we produce.
Maltech's use of the BrakeQuip brake hose manufacturing system has allowed them to become an Authorised Manufacturer of BrakeQuip Stainless Steel Braided Brake Hoses.

The available sets have been developed using standard vehicles as samples.
The reason behind this is that in some cases when you copy a rubber hose and make it in Stainless Braided, you will find that the hose may not line up with the locating brackets or the banjo fitting will be pointing in the wrong direction, resulting in difficulty to fit the hose. Rubber brake hoses have a certain amount of give in relation to alignment of fittings, Stainless braided hoses don't.
Therefore Ultimate Brake Hose sets have been developed to fit without any modifications required to the hose or your vehicle.
Ultimate Brake Hose sets are packaged in a sealed plastic bag with a header bar attached to indicate what vehicle the set suits. Depending on the vehicle, you will get 3, 4, 5 or 6 Street Legal Stainless Braided Brake Hoses. If the set requires, it will also include brackets and retaining clips, appropriate length and thread banjo bolts and copper washers.

This one piece Stainless Steel thru chassis fitting incorporating a crimp shell allows us to crimp the Stainless Braided hose directly to the Thru Chassis Fitting. Not only is it the simplest and neatest way to connect the brake hose, you have eliminated one potential leak point and done away with bulky fittings. This makes it easy to install and they look absolutely brilliant when fully polished. Available to suit 2 or 2.5” chassis, complete with appropriate length hose and fittings to suit your requirements. Supplied with stainless half nut and washer.
Maltech recommends the installation of Ultimate Brake Hoses to be carried out by a qualified motor mechanic. It is also recommended that you have the vehicles brake fluid completely flushed and replaced with new brake fluid.
